oolagah

last saturday was gorgeous, so i couldn't just stay home, could i?  of course not!

so i rounded up anyone who wanted to go with me, packed a picnic lunch and hit the road. our final destination was of course unknown when we started our journey.  we headed east on highway 60 towards nowata.  as we were driving i saw a sign that said "historical school".  i turned around and headed that way.
how cool is an 'A' on a gate!

aww...little donkey friends!

colby and spencer just wanted to pet a cow!
about 5 miles down the road we found the historical school of 1919.  it was cute!  i couldn't find any other information about other than this sign.

we saw ranches 'A' to 'Z'!
we just kept driving down the road where the historical school was, and we eventually ended up in oolagah.  that one block of a downtown is so cute!!!!  i didn't get a good picture because of the reflection off the windshield, so i turned around and tried to get another one. but when i made the block, some repair truck was smack in the middle of the road working on a light or something!  ugh.  i guess i'll just have to go back sometime.  (plus there were 2 antique stores i didn't get to go into!)

what a cool name!
for our picnic lunch we stopped at spencer creek cove.  it was a small little park, but it had just what we needed...a picnic table and a swimming hole!
the boys threw rocks.
i took pictures,
and made a new friend.
do you see the smiley face in this rock?

like i said before it was a gorgeous day.  85 degrees and sunshine.  perfect day for swimming, right?  maybe for little varmints, but not for me!  that water was freezing!!!!

spencer and colby didn't care about the water temperature.  they were determined to get wet!  they even brought a change of clothes!

you can tell by the expressions their faces how shocking the water was!

once they were completely frozen, they came out of the water for some mud time!  it wasn't long before it was being thrown everywhere!  i stayed far enough back that i wasn't in the line of fire.

dirty little boy
i love this picture of colby's dirty hand!  it was a total fluke.  i was trying to take a picture of his dirty face and he shoved his nasty little hand in front of the lens!  i'm thinking about entering this in the photo contest in the county fair this fall!

this is as far as i went in that frigid water.  my toes immediately began aching when i stepped in the lake...that's how cold the water was!  i can't believe the boys stayed in it for nearly 3 hours!  i just sat and watched them, and got a really nice sunburn.  ouch!

when we finally left the lake, we told martha (gps) to take us home.  i guess i was just really turned around, but i thought she'd just take us back the way we came.  wrong!

she took us down this windy, hilly road and then dumped us out on route 66 in foyil, oklahoma!  what?!?

since we were in foyil, we HAD to go see the world's largest totem pole (again) because you can't go to foyil and not see it!  sheesh!

tiny inchworm on the totem pole!

as we were walking back to the car, i noticed colby squatted down in the grass with his camera.  he was so excited about a grasshopper he had spotted.  i love that he gets excitement from the little things in nature that god has made.

after foyil, we went through chelsea, oklahoma.  and since we were in chelsea, we HAD to stop by the antique store where you can actually write on the building!  the store was closed, but the varmints didn't care.  they just wanted to write their names on the place because who doesn't think it's cool to be a legal vandal?

i found the spot where lisa and i had signed the wall almost a year ago to the day!  i had to smile.  that was a good day with lisa.

we made it home 5 minutes before the fundraiser at school started.  whew!  i'm sure we smelled nasty, but i don't care.  it was an amazing event.  every grade level sang a song from a movie, and there was an auction of things that the kids had made plus other fabulous items that businesses had donated.  i couldn't believe how much people paid for some of that stuff....especially the kids' artwork!  W.O.W!
